Store 716 is an online/retail location in Buffalo NY that sells t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and more in support of the area’s Major League sports teams, the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. In addition, they also sell shirts just promoting pride in Buffalo, NY.

One of the company owners recently had a contest (via 99designs) for a new T-shirt to be designed for Buffalo Sabres player, Zemgus Girgensons, otherwise known as the “Latvian Locomotive” for his high flying, aggressive style of play. The image of a charging freight train was preferred, along with other necessary elements for the design brief.

The shirt I designed, following the brief, features the iconic Buffalo Sabres navy and gold coloring, as well as elements of red and the powerful image of a freight train that was modified to give the image motion and an element of imposition as it comes crashing forward.

Zemgus’ jersey number ’28’ is also a focal point of my shirt design, along with stylized lettering to resemble the jagged framework of the train.
