A vortex of pieces — The Re-Invention Begins

I recently posted a personal endeavor titled “Re-Invented”, which combined elements of photography, video art, and hand drawn sketching to put together a complete package. The piece showcases my flexibility as an artist but also is a reminder of the quality you can attain merely with sketching. Adobe’s programs are extremely powerful tools for contemporary artists, but they shouldn’t overshadow the intimacy of sketching with simpler tools, and using ones most practical tool ; the mind.

I’m no Picasso or Van Gogh, but my imagery was purposefully sketched with a key vision in mind. In the original hand-drawn rendition (the full digital copy can be viewed via my Posters section) you are able to notice more detail towards the bottom of the page where it appears the image is being devoured by machinery. A rough mock-up of a mother board and other electronic elements serve as a reminder that electronic media is consuming art and its dominance is clear and inevitable. By mixing the pieces, I’ve assimilated the best of both worlds and taken the concept further in the final version, using Photoshop and Illustrator to combine photographs and different methods of coloring.

The free-form type for the word “Re-Invented” was also hand-drawn and merged into the final poster.
