Creative Ideals

Graphic Design is of course about more than creating simple “pretty pictures”. However, creativity is a sort of unpredictable process through which anything can happen. A “problem” in the graphics world refers to any kind of project that demands a graphic designer. In many cases, this involves crafting a logo, identity material, posters, banners, etc. and inspiration isn’t always as easy to come by as one may think.

Everyone has their own personal strategies for how to deal with “writers block” when it comes to artistry and I personally like to let my thoughts free flow. Sketches are a great preliminary step to any project, but what if there is no project? Create one! At least, that’s how I’ve been going about it.

This crazy sketch came about the other day, as I tried to represent the abstract concept of creativity. I ended up finding my way to this mis-match of elements to make a sketch involving typography, color, varied layouts and shapes. It’s a great way to hone one’s skills and you never know when you may need that creative touch.

In general I find, the harder you try, the more you may find yourself in a rut, so sometimes creating for creativity’s sake is the best way to get started. Just let your mind take you where it wants to go. You can be creative with something as complex as a billboard or as simple as just writing your name.
