This past spring, I was in a Design Group which worked on materials for Paul Newman’s “Hole In The Wall” Gang Campground. The designs were for their 25th anniversary celebration, for a special day of music and celebration. In addition to tour signs (which guided visitors through the camp) and story banners (banners featuring information on past campers), our main focus was stage banners. The camp needed banners for the stage show that would be the main event on display. Several designs were proposed, promoting the childhood feel of the camp, as well as Paul Newman’s legacy as a great actor in many classic western films.
For those who aren’t familiar, Newman’s “Hole In The Wall” camp sponsors thousands of children from around the area (with multiple camps worldwide) who suffer from severe illness. For a week, these kids are able to let loose and have fun with their fellow campers, playing games, going swimming and doing the kinds of things that most kids would take for granted at day camps. It was a truly special experience working with the people behind the Hole In The Wall camp and this was an incredible, and inspirational project. Below is my stage design, to be displayed above the concert from their May 2013 celebration. This wasn’t the design selected, but was one of many under consideration from the design group.

My complete design for the Hole In The Wall Gang Campground 25th anniversary stage.
The large “wall” serves as a vantage point to see what lays within Paul Newman’s remarkable camp. The wall itself is painted with stars, to epitomize their alumni association, “The Stars in the sky” and also to accentuate the playfulness of their kids.
